BTBNM would love to be able to help ALL first responders. However, because our funding is limited, we have to set parameters that clarify who is eligible to receive funds and how much funding. All individuals who are to receive assistance to pay for counseling or ancillary services through BTBNM must be:
- A citizen of the State of New Mexico
- Have any length of verifiable* service in the professions of police, fire, EMS or emergency communications (911 operator/dispatch)
- First responders will receive $300 per family per year, subject to availability of funds. These funds can be used by the first responder or by their dependent family members. This benefit includes dependent family members of fallen first responders. "Dependent" can be further defined as those who would presently be dependent family members if the first responder were alive today. Automatically this will include spouses and children who would still be under the age of 18 if the first responder were alive today.
It is the hope, intent and vision that Behind the Badge NM will at some point not have to impose monetary limits to it's support. This will happen with the support of first responders, community support of our fundraisers, and the donation which can be made through our website.
* Verifiable documentation includes but is not limited to; Licenses, certifications, pay-stubs, or academy graduation certificates.
